Cancer Survivor Numbers Hit Nearly 12 Million

The number of Americans who have a history of cancer was 11.7 million in 2007, or nearly 4% of the population, according to new figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
That's up from about three million in 1971 and 9.8 million in 2001, according to a report published in the March 11 issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
And the number of cancer survivors continues to grow because of earlier diagnosis through screening, more effective treatment, improved follow-up care, and an aging /.../
