Non-Communicable Diseases

New responses to non-communicable diseases, October 29th 2012, GenevaMore Sharing Services

How can we improve health outcomes for all?

Join us for an exclusive gathering of leading healthcare experts, policymakers, NGOs and patient groups.
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the world’s number one killer, accounting for two out of three deaths globally and 86% of deaths in the EU. About half of American adults already have a chronic condition and rates are soaring in Asia and Africa: as the world becomes richer, the diseases of the rich spread further.
The good news is that the scourge of chronic diseases is largely preventable. Up to 40% of cancers and 80% of precursors to cardiovascular disease and diabetes could be prevented by combining primary prevention measures with screening and early intervention.
The World Health Assembly has set a global target of achieving 25% reduction in overall mortality rates from NCDs. Our summit in Geneva will debate how to meet that target, with expert contributions from those leading the NCD fight within Governments, healthcare systems, the private sector and civic society.
