Thousands gathered on the grounds of the Washington Monument: “The very idea of evidence and logic and reason is being threatened by individuals and interests with the power to do real harm,” one of the rally emcees said. Some in the crowd directed their commentary to the occupant of the nearby White House, bringing a political tone to an event that organizers said was not meant to be partisan.
