One of the most commonly used class of antibiotics -- fluoroquinolones -- are associated with aortic aneurysm and dissection, a population-based study from Sweden reported in The BMJ.
In a propensity-score matched analysis, the hazard ratio was 1.66 for fluoroquinolone versus amoxicillin antibiotic use, for an absolute 82 cases per one million treatment episodes within 60 days of use.
The risk appeared to be highest in  the first 10 days of initiating treatment, during active treatment.
"If the association is causal, these data indicate that a potential mechanism is relatively acute in  onset, largely waning after  treatment cessation."/.../
