Happy Earth Day 2020

Happy Earth Day! Fifty years ago, 20 million people joined together to march for the planet, and the modern environmental movement took off. Since we can’t join in person this year, Columbia’s Earth Institute and Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory put together a live digital program featuring our expert faculty and researchers. Join in by sharing your own Earth Day stories and connect with us on social media.

Watch Our Live Earth Day Event
We are excited to have you join our Earth Day presentation, 50/50: Looking Back, Moving Forward, with Earth Institute scientists and environmental leaders. The program starts at 10 a.m. EDT: watch here.

Hear from Our Scientists and Researchers
We asked our researchers what inspired them to study our planet and how their work helps prepare us for a changing planet and helps us build healthy, equitable societies. Learn more on our Earth Day site.

Join Us on Social
Post your images of our “Beautiful Planet” on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter with the hashtag #ColumbiaBeautifulPlanet for a chance to see your photo on Columbia's social media sites. Help us celebrate Earth and the people working to sustain a livable planet for all.

Follow our K-12 Series
In this series of free, one-hour virtual sessions, our experts from across the Earth Institute share aspects of their work through lectures, interactive activities, and live demos. View the lineup here.

Thank you for being a part of Earth Day with us. Our efforts to protect our planet must be grounded in the very best understanding of the Earth and its systems, and we’re proud our community of earth and environmental scientists, journalists, economists, engineers, lawyers, and health, business and policy experts are leading the charge.

If you know someone who is as passionate about the planet as you are, please forward this message along. We would be grateful for your continued help to expand our effort to ensure a sustainable future for all.
