Bôrtolo Achutti (28/10/1898 - 19/11/1977)
Papai, Bôrtolo Achutti estaria completando hoje 120 anos, se vivo ainda estivesse. Filho de imigrantes: pai Libanês e mãe Italiana. Fotógrafo, farmacêutico, curioso, funcionário da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, desenhista da Viação Férrea do RS quando jovem, com muitos amigos, campeão Nacional de tiro ao alvo de 1922 no Rio de Janeiro, por ocasião das comemorações da Independência (mas nunca o vi atirar contra um ser vivo). No dia 26 p.p. teria completado 91 anos de casado com nossa mãe Luiza Cechella Achutti. Deixou, além de mim, mais duas filhas: Lia Maria e Maria Helena, mais três netos: Luiz Eduardo, Ana Lúcia e Lúcia Helena, e mais quatro bisnetos: Júlia, Pedro Martin, Antônio e Eduardo

Human Evolution
The story of humanity is a story of adaptation. Over the past 200,000 years, ever since the first modern humans (Homo sapiens) appeared in Africa, people have been spreading outward from that continent in every possible direction. As they encountered new environments and challenges, our ancestors had to change in many ways to survive.
New dangers meant that only the physically strongest or smartest humans tended to live long enough to pass on their genes.

Overview
At the First and Second UN High-level Meetings on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) in 2011 and 2014, the World Health Organization released Country Profiles, highlighting the latest data on NCDs in each WHO Member State. This third set of Country Profiles provides an update on each Member State, presenting key data on NCD mortality, risk factor prevalence, national systems capacity to prevent and control NCDs and existence of national targets based on the Global Monitoring Framework. These profiles allow Member States to track their progress towards achieving the nine global targets, to be attained by 2025.
baloxavir marboxil (Xofluza, Shionogi)
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved baloxavir marboxil tablets (Xofluza, Shionogi) for the treatment of acute uncomplicated influenza in people age 12 years and older who have been symptomatic for no more than 48 hours.
"This is the first new antiviral flu treatment with a novel mechanism of action approved by the FDA in nearly 20 years. With thousands of people getting the flu every year, and many people becoming seriously ill, having safe and effective treatment alternatives is critical. This novel drug provides an important, additional treatment option," FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, MD, said in a news release.
Unlike neuraminidase inhibitors, such as oseltamivir (Tamiflu, Genentech), which inhibit the action of neuraminidase (an enzyme that frees viruses from the infected cells' surface), baloxavir marboxil prevents replication by inhibiting cap-dependent endonuclease activity of the viral polymerase./.../
Lung Cancer : ACE
The use of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors to lower blood pressure was associated with an overall increased risk for lung cancer of 14% compared to hypertension therapy with angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), a large, population-based cohort study shows.
Thanks to the widespread use of ACE inhibitors for the treatment of hypertension, this relatively modest association could result in large absolute numbers of patients at risk for lung cancer, the researchers warn.
An analysis of primary care records of almost one million patients in the United Kingdom showed that as treatment with ACE inhibitors continued, the risk for lung cancer increased. For patients who took ACE inhibitors for 5 years, the risk for lung cancer increased by 22% compared to those who took ARBs. The increased risk for lung cancer peaked at 31% for patients who took ACE inhibitors for 10 years or longer./.../
