Next steps in the development of the social determinants of health approach: the need for a new narrative

The social determinants of health (SDoH) approach to understand health inequalities has been quite
successful. For research, it has brought a framework that organises the wide range of more specific drivers and factors that contribute to health inequalities. In the context of policy, it has become a key
framework for analysis as well as policy recommendations, both at the international, national regional  and local levels.
The seminal work presented by the Commission on Social Determinants of Health more than a decade ago[1] has been followed up at all these levels, most recently by the Commission of the Pan American Health Organization on Equity and Health Inequalities in the Americas[2]./.../
