MR images of abdominal aortic atherosclerosis may help physicians predict the risk of future adverse cardiovascular events, researchers reported.

In a long-running cohort study, increases in the average aortic wall thickness were associated with a higher risk of a composite of cardiovascular events ranging from death to angina, according to Christopher Maroules, MD, and colleagues at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
