Recasting Human Development measures – Expert Group Meeting
The Human Development Report Office (HDRO) convened 12 international experts from academia and research institutes in New York on 12-13 February 2018 for a two-day meeting to discuss human development measurements and the way forward. Led and facilitated by Selim Jahan, Director of HDRO, and Milorad Kovacevic, Chief Statistician at HDRO, the debate aimed to present, discuss and propose how the methodologies of current human development indices can be improved so that indices stay relevant in monitoring progress in human development, with particular aims at strengthening the usefulness of the indices for policy debates within the broader 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. Presentations focused on issues related to the family of human development indices, and looked for ways to include environmental sustainability and strengthen linkages with SDG indicators.
