‘Noah’s ark of seeds’ banks 1 million samples

The Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway is celebrating its tenth anniversary today by taking delivery of its 1 millionth deposit. The black-eyed pea, a major protein source in Africa and southern Asia, and the Bambara groundnut, which is being developed as a drought tolerant crop in Africa, are among those taking their place in the reinforced vault.
